TERRAFIRMA's top local scorer Juami Tiongson is grateful to his team for giving him the break that paved the way for him to win the PBA Most Improved Player award last year.
\r\r
Last season was actually a breakout year for Tiongson highlighted by a 28-point explosion in Terrafirma's 110-104 overtime win against San Miguel in the Philippine Cup. He topped that effort with a new career-high of 31 points, spiked by nine triples in a 95-90 win against Barangay Ginebra.
\r\r
In the team's just-concluded stint in the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner's Cup, the former Ateneo gunner averaged a career-best 16.7 points, along with 3.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds but unfortunately, the Dyip won just once in 12 games.
\r\r
With his contract set to expire at the end this December 31, Tiongson already received a one-year contract extension offer from the Terrafirma management. However, the 31-year-old guard is taking the time to study his options at this point in his career.
\r\r
Admittedly, there are offers from other PBA teams, which he said, were higher compared to what Terrafirma plans to give.
\r\r
And should there be an open door to play overseas, be it Japan or Korea, Tiongson is willing to explore that option, too.
\r\r
"Actually an alumnus from Ateneo talked to me at sabi niya, may interview daw po with a Korean scout. But so far, po wala pa pong meeting na nangyayari. But it would be a great opportunity to play abroad if an offer comes my way," Tiongson told The Manila Times.
\r\r
Still, Tiongson isn't inclined at quickly making the jump overseas, but instead, he intends to consult with his agent Danny Espiritu.
\r\r
"I will talk to boss Danny first and see what other options there are," he added.
\r\r
Tiongson, being a consummate pro, has joined the team's practice already as the Dyip began their preparation for the Governors' Cup last Monday.
\r\r
With still over a month before the start of the season-ending conference, Tiongson already returned to his routine that involves dribbling, shooting and weights.
\r\r
"I only gave myself two days off then started lifting weights," explained the PBA journeyman, who started his pro career with Blackwater, which selected him 12th overall in the 2014 PBA Draft.
\r\r
"Right now, sa weights, mostly maintenance phase po kami ngayon. Iwas injury. Sa skills naman, mostly what I've been doing for the last years. May routine na po kasi ako. So it's mostly my shooting, like midrange off the dribble and three-pointer," added Tiongson, who, after his unproductive stint with Blackwater, played for NLEX from 2017-2019 before being traded to Terrafirma.

{"":[""],"seo_meta_keywords":[""],"seo_meta_description":[""],"seo_meta_title":[""],"sponsored_flag":[""],"offer_flag":["off"],"featured_article_flag":[""],"drupal_json":["{"type":null,"properties":{"PUBLISHED":0,"PROMOTED":0,"STICKY":0},"fields":[]}"],"wp_custom_json":["{"type":"","fields":[]}"],"article_tags":[""],"show_image":["off"],"Disable_Ad":["off"],"disable_player":["off"],"column":[""],"kicker":[""],"edel":["on"],"delu":["https://tmt.news/DE20221217B8"],"delt":["Read this in The Manila Times digital edition."],"premium":["off"],"Redirect_URL":[""],"page_number":"0","initial_publication":"","date_created":"2022-12-17 00:22:27","date_modified":"2022-12-17 16:41:36","last_modified_user":"Ian Christopher Soreño","section_color":"#08F304","target_page":"0","cxense_metatags":null}
;
