Something caught my attention over the holidays. While most of us were unplugging, developers were doing the opposite, spending real time learning. Nearly 30,000 views across long-form technical sessions during one of the quietest weeks of the year. That made me stop. It wasn’t about announcements or hype. It was about where experienced developers choose to invest their time when no one is telling them to. My team and I are already deep into planning VS Live! Las Vegas this March and VS Live! on the Microsoft campus in Redmond this July, and that reflection is what pushed me to write a short blog post about immersive learning, why it still matters, and why 2026 is a great year to step away from the noise and learn deeply with peers. One important note: these events are intentionally capped at around 500 attendees, which is why the interaction and hands-on experience work so well, and why they tend to sell out.
