Driving open source innovation in Europe and beyond.
About us
LF Europe is an independent trusted supporter and vendor-neutral home for open source projects. We are the arena of choice for intra- and inter-regional open source and open standard collaboration in Europe, amongst public and private sectors as well as individual contributors. Europe is home to a thriving community of open source contributors â from individuals to enterprises to governments â who deliver innovation that positively impacts the region and the world. Today, open source is widely recognized by policymakers as a unique tool to achieve ambitious European-wide goals like the digital commons and digital sovereignty. As digital transformation accelerates and open source innovation continues to be a critical competitive differentiator, we established Linux Foundation Europe, a Bruxelles based non-profit, in September 2022 under the leadership of General Manager, Gabriele Columbro. Linux Foundation Europeâs mission is to accelerate the growth of thriving open collaborative efforts focused on challenges and opportunities of all European constituencies, from individuals to public and private sectors, while providing an on-ramp for European projects and companies to succeed and collaborate on a global scale.

Last year, OpenForum Europe was honored to help organise the annual #OSPOsForGood 2024 Symposium on 9-10 July 2024 in New York City! Since then, we have worked with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, The Linux Foundation, United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies, and United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology on the production of a conference #report which summarises the key #insights and #learnings from the conference, as well as key next steps for strengthening the use of #OpenSource in #GlobalDigitalCooperation. Head on over to the UN website to check out the report, which was released last Friday at the #EUOpenSource Policy Summit. You can scroll down to find it under 'Resources'. Big news today! The LF Energy SEAPATH project has released version 1.0! As the energy transition progresses, utilities require a new generation of Digital Substation Automation Systems (DSAS) that can provide more complex, dynamic, and adaptive automation functions at grid nodes and edge, as well as enhanced orchestration from central systems, in both flexible and scalable manner. SEAPATH addresses this need with an open source software hypervisor designed for IEC61850 DSAS. 1.0 is a production-ready version of SEAPATH, and has been designed and built as an industrial-grade solution dedicated to the critical context of digital stations, meeting the challenges of interoperability, standards compliance and cybersecurity constraints. SEAPATH contributors include RTE Réseau de Transport d'Electricité, Alliander, GE Vernova, Savoir-faire Linux, Welotec, and Red Hat.
