💀 Exploiting the New ChatGPT Search: An Interesting own Discovery! â˜ ï¸ After some testing, I found a quirk in the ChatGPT search functionality: it appears that most searches are powered by Bing’s index. I confirmed this by checking my Cloudflare/NGINX logs – despite ChatGPT having its own bots, Bing plays a significant role here. This has some implications. Websites that aren’t indexed by Bing (due to known bugs or penalties) won’t appear in ChatGPT’s search results. I even triggered a Bing penalty on one of my sites a few weeks ago to see how it affected visibility, and, as expected, it disappeared from ChatGPT search results too. This is not new. Openai stated at Verge that they are working with third party search technology of bing. "The search functionality was built with “a mix of search technologies,†including Microsoft’s Bing, Fry said."

If your web page is indexed, then Google or Bing will rank it on top pages, but AI search engines will display the most relevant pages (relative to user search), irrespective of ranking by the crawler bot of any web page. The AI-based search engine is a kind of new thing that will evolve over time in a couple of years..

That's interesting... i thought we were moving away from this system with new a.i. search. The fact that you even need to register with search engines like Bing and Google to be seen by Chat GPT search is a bad sign. No wonder search doesn't uncover anything new anymore. a.i. search was supposed to scan the internet and find real user generated product reviews and real information, not SEO optimised garbage.
