ð Exploiting the New ChatGPT Search: An Interesting own Discovery! â ï¸ After some testing, I found a quirk in the ChatGPT search functionality: it appears that most searches are powered by Bingâs index. I confirmed this by checking my Cloudflare/NGINX logs â despite ChatGPT having its own bots, Bing plays a significant role here. This has some implications. Websites that arenât indexed by Bing (due to known bugs or penalties) wonât appear in ChatGPTâs search results. I even triggered a Bing penalty on one of my sites a few weeks ago to see how it affected visibility, and, as expected, it disappeared from ChatGPT search results too. The website is working just perfect on google. A noteworthy insight for anyone relying on AI-powered search visibility! ð #AI #SearchEngineOptimization #ChatGPT #Bing #SEO
This is not new. Openai stated at Verge that they are working with third party search technology of bing. "The search functionality was built with âa mix of search technologies,â including Microsoftâs Bing, Fry said."
Hi Ivan, how did you triggered a penalty only for bing?
Ivan Hristov, thatâs a fascinating find about ChatGPT! ð¤ How do you see Bing's role impacting SEO strategies moving forward?
If your web page is indexed, then Google or Bing will rank it on top pages, but AI search engines will display the most relevant pages (relative to user search), irrespective of ranking by the crawler bot of any web page. The AI-based search engine is a kind of new thing that will evolve over time in a couple of years..
It is very clearly stated in the documentation. ð https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9237897-chatgpt-search
Wow, someone doing an SEO and ChatGPT post on LinkedIn that has data, testing, conclusions and INSIGHT as opposed to fear mongering and BS claims that Google is dead and only hiring me as an âexpertâ in a field that has no way of being an actual expert will save you. I like it.
Yes that's true. In recent AMA on reddit, one of thier team members told that they are using many services and Bing is one of them. Here is AMA: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1ggixzy/ama_with_openais_sam_altman_kevin_weil_srinivas/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
That's interesting... i thought we were moving away from this system with new a.i. search. The fact that you even need to register with search engines like Bing and Google to be seen by Chat GPT search is a bad sign. No wonder search doesn't uncover anything new anymore. a.i. search was supposed to scan the internet and find real user generated product reviews and real information, not SEO optimised garbage.
Good validation/verification here. Fabrice confirmed this at Tech SEO Connect as well.
