November Programs at Riverdale Public Library

Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 20

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters shares projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Book Discussion: “The Incorruptibles” by Dan Slater

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7

This harrowing tale of early 20th century New York reveals the true stories of an immigrant underworld, a secret vice squad, and the rise of organized crime.

DIY Hand-Sewn Recipe Journal

10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9

Hand stitch a recipe journal to take home while discussing your favorite holiday recipes. All materials will be provided, but you may want to bring copies of your favorite recipe to trade with other participants. Registration is required.

Curiosity Connection: Games Throughout History

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13

This month we’ll explore the history of tabletop games from ancient civilizations to the present day, from board games to card games to video games, with brief hands-on demonstrations.

Curiosity Connection offers adults in our community the opportunity to explore a new subject each month in arts, culture, science and technology by combining interactive presentations and hands-on experiences with open and engaging discussions.

Children’s Programs

Family Storytime

10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 15

For children through age 5 years and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Let’s Vote!

11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16

Let’s Vote! is a lively, educational program that empowers children to practice democratic processes. Representatives from Lee County Elections will help kids understand the importance of voting and encourage them to take an active role in their community. Attendees will get to participate in a mock vote using the same methods that are used in real elections. Come on in and vote for your favorite book character, ice cream flavor, movie and more.

Homeschool Hangout: Gratitude

1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21

Through interactive activities, storytelling and creative expression, this program encourages children to reflect on and appreciate the positive aspects of their lives, fostering a mindset of thankfulness and resilience. This program is geared toward children ages 6-12 years.

Baby Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22

For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. Arrive early and visit the Youth Desk to check in.

Teen Programs

Intro to Tabletop RPGs

2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12

This program is designed for newcomers who want to try out the basic mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons with others who are new to Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPGs.) Players will learn about gaming etiquette and vocabulary while taking their first steps into TTRPGs with the introductory game Dungeons and Dragons: Adventure Begins. Other tabletop games will be available, snacks will be provided and the first few participants will receive a TTRPG swag bag to take home.
