Phil De Lara was an animator at Warner Bros, and an artist of funny animal comics for Dell/Western Publishing and Gold Key. He was with Warner Bros. during the periods 1930s-1943 and 1946-1955, and worked with animators like Chuck Jones on characters like 'Bugs Bunny', 'Porky Pig', 'Daffy Duck', 'Speedy Gonzales' and 'The Tasmanian Devil'. He did his first comic book artwork through the Editorial Art Syndicate/Sangor Shop in 1943. He was with Dell/Western from 1950 until 1973, and worked on stories with characters from nearly every animation studio at the time. He was the main artist of 'Daffy Duck' stories, but also penciled stories with other Warner characters, like 'Bugs Bunny', 'Porky Pig', 'Elmer Fudd', 'Road Runner', 'Tweety & Sylvester' and 'Speedy Gonzales'.

He drew stories with MGM's 'Tom & Jerry', 'Droopy' (originally created by Tex Avery), 'Barney Bear' and 'Spike & Tyke', and with the Walter Lantz characters 'Andy Panda', 'Chilly Willy' and 'Oswald the Lucky Rabbit' from 1955 to 1962. For many years, he drew the adventures of 'Woody Woodpecker' (1955-1973), and with Disney characters like 'Chip 'n' Dale', 'Goofy', 'Li'l Bad Wolf' and 'Gyro Gearloose'. He later also drew for Disney's own production of foreign market comic book stories in the 1960s, mostly starring 'Donald Duck' or another member of the Duck family.

From the 1960s, he was also a penciler for a great many Hanna-Barbera characters, varying from 'The Flintstones' and 'The Jetsons' to 'Yogi Bear', 'Huckleberry Hound' and 'Scooby-Doo'. In the years before his retirement, De Lara drew stories with 'Pink Panther' and 'The Inspector', licensed properties of DePatie-Freleng.
