RAPID CITY – With all of the preliminary rounds completed, Lakota Tech, defending LNI girls wrestling champs were down to RC Stevens, going into the championship rounds(championship and third place matches) both teams had 10 wrestlers participating when the dust settled, Lakota Tech had successfully defended their LNI crown with 155 points to Stevens 145. The remaining team finishers included 3)Custer 85.5, 4)Winnebago 69, 5)Pine Ridge 66, 6)Todd County, 6)Todd County 43, 7)White Shield 18, 8)Bennett County 14, 9) McLaughlin 11, 10)Tiospa Zina 8, 11)Red Cloud 3, 12)Little Wound 0, 13)Valentine 0.

On the boys side, Bennett County defeated last year’s champ Lakota Tech 219.5 to 104; additional team finishers included 3)McLaughlin 101, 4)Custer JV 84.5, 5)Winnebago 64, 6) CEB/Dupree/Tiospaye Topa 60, 7)Todd County 50, 8)Pine Ridge 48, 9)Winner Area 38, 10) New Town/Parshall 31.5, 11)Little Wound 22, 12)Tiospa Zina 20, 13)White Shield 18, 14) Red Cloud 0.

Powering Lakota Tech girls to their second straight LNI title was five championships including Serenity Trueblood at 107, Brandy Marshall at 114, Jessica Waln at 132, Giada Scherich at 138 and Sandra Moves Camp at 185. Additional Tatanka finishers included Iva Black Elk third at 100, Jaynie Perkins second at 107, Eugena DuBray second at 126, Cante White Bull third at 126, Mackenzie Cottier fourth at 145 and Chloe Fire Thunder third at 165.

“Our girls have shown some mid-season consistency, they’ve started strong in each tournament,” said Dave Michaud, Lakota Tech head coach, “we’re still working towards the best weights for each of our weight classes, it’ll be another couple of weeks before we get there, the kids are working hard and having fun, participating and competing.”
