Creating strong passwords is essential for protecting yourself from fraud, and some of the worst passwords can be cracked in under a second. NordPass and NordStellar, part of Nord Security, have released a list of the 200 most common passwords by analyzing 2.5 terabytes of publicly available data from 44 countries, including the U.S.
Here are the top five most common passwords, according to the list:
- 123456
- 123456789
- 12345678
- password
- qwerty123
For stronger security, create long, unique passwords using random strings of letters, numbers, and symbols.
It's also vital not to reuse passwords, as doing so can give hackers access to multiple accounts.
Consider using a password manager or app to keep track of your passwords, as these tools are often encrypted and can generate strong passwords for you.
