Darlene Ann Popp Kahanek December 30, 1958 - August 11, 2024

Darlene Ann Popp Kahanek, 65, of El Campo, passed away August 11, 2024 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. She was born December 30, 1958 in El Campo to the late Joe and Virginia Valigura Popp. Darlene was a shelf-edge manager at H-E-B in El Campo for 27 years.

Darlene loved life. She loved to cook and bake, especially for family functions and for parties with friends.  Darlene was “Well Known” for her delicious chicken spaghetti and spinach dip.

She is survived by her daughter, Meagan Dorris (Chase) of El Campo; son, Cody Kahanek (Stephanie) of Egypt; grandchildren, Brandt Kahanek and Eleanor Dorris; sisters, Lynell Ustynik (Scott) and Sandra Popp; niece, Jenna York; nephews, Hunter Ustynik (Ariana) and Taylor Ustynik (Mara) and great-nieces and great-nephews, Kambrie, Lincoln, Henleigh and Addix Ustynik.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Allen Popp; sister-in-law Doreen Popp; Chopper Kahanek and numerous Weiner dogs.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at St. Philip Catholic Church with a Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. with interment following at Holy Cross Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Ustynik, Stephen “Slick” Drlik, Al Cerny, Brandt Kahanek, Taylor Ustynik and Edward “Red” York and honorary pallbearer will be Eleanor Dorris.

Memorial donations may be made to Wharton County Cares, St. Philip Church or St. Philip School.
