CAMDEN Town WFC overcame an early scare in the Greater London Women’s League JGM Trophy on Sunday when Hannah McIntyre pounced on a loose ball to fire hosts East London ahead at Wanstead Flats in Leytonstone.
The visitors took a while to settle in difficult conditions but soon equalised when Shanice Etherington followed in a Maxine Borden free-kick, which was parried by the goalkeeper. Camden’s Paraguayan vice-captain, Maria Paz Vera (pictured), started to cause East London problems down the left-hand side and just before half-time she cut in and unleashed an unstoppable shot to complete the comeback.
The game was made safe 10 minutes from time when Paz Vera grabbed her second of the game, dribbling past two defenders before firing into the roof of the net to seal a 3-1 win and put Camden into the last-16.
Meanwhile, fans are being urged to show their support for Camden Town at their next home game, which is against Comets at Wingate & Finchley FC’s Maurice Rebak Stadium on Sunday, January 28.
