PLAYERS from Camden Town WFC are promising to deliver “exciting football” this month as they prepare to tackle back-to-back home games against Clapham United and Regent’s Park Rangers.

The newly-promoted side are enjoying all the thrills and spills that come with playing in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League.

So far they have taken part in seven games in the top flight, winning two, drawing one and losing four.

All bar one of those fixtures have been closely contested, including Sunday’s narrow 2-1 defeat away to league leaders Actonians Reserves.

One factor that could give Camden Town an extra boost is the fans, and team captain Lily Rose Dyer is calling on supporters from across Camden, Islington and Westminster to join the squad this Sunday at Wingate and Finchley FC’s famous Maurice Rebak Stadium in Summers Lane and make some noise.

Fresh from her goal against Actonians, Dyer said: “We can’t wait to be back at home, in front of our fans. After a top-notch performance on Sunday we have so much momentum to take into our upcoming fixtures – we’re set for some big wins!

“These next two games are pivotal for securing the top-of-the-table finish we are gunning for. We are gearing up to play some exciting football.”

The club’s technical director, Richard Mahoney, echoed that clarion call ahead of the 2pm kick-off against Clapham United.

He said: “It’s been a whirlwind start to the season, but we have settled into our new home at the Maurice Rebak Stadium nicely and performances and results are starting to improve.

“Our next two home games against Clapham United and Regent’s Park Rangers on November 6 and November 13 are crucial. Come down and get behind the team.”

Meanwhile, Camden Town Reserves are also back in action this weekend in Division 2 Central & West of the Greater London Women’s League. They will travel to Stanwell in Surrey to take on Ashford Town “B” (Middlesex) in a 2pm kick-off.

The following weekend (November 13) they will be back on their home pitch at the Hub in Regent’s Park, and are also inviting fans to come along and cheer them on against South London Reserves.

The game gets underway at 2pm.

Borough’s title chase

TITLE challengers Islington Borough warmed up for their top-of-the-table clash away to Actonians Reserves in style on Sunday by smashing six goals past UCL Academicals in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League. Goal-getter Freya Glen hit a hat-trick, while Mia Fadeni also chipped in with two goals as Islington sealed a 6-2 victory at St Aloysius Playing Fields in Highgate. The win leaves them second in the table, three points behind leaders Actonians Reserves who have played a game more, and, for the time being at least, also boast a better goal difference.
