The ‘Announce Messages with Siri’ functionality has finally surfaced after Apple promised that it would make it on the release of iOS 13.
To use the feature, you will need to have an iPhone on iOS 13.2 and connected to a pair of AirPods. Affix the AirPods in your ears and you should be able to hear and even respond to incoming SMS on your iPhone. Siri automatically transcribes the message so you won’t need to look at the text on your watch or smartphone.
Before the message plays, the user hears a special tone. Siri will state, ‘Alex says..’ before the actual text is read, and if another one comes Siri will adjust to continue the conversation.
To activate Announce Messages with Siri, go to Settings, Siri & Search, then Announce Messages. The feature will work with third party messaging apps, but will only work with AirPods that have H1. The official release date of iOS 13.2 has yet to be announced.
