Modernize Your Chandelier with a Shade
I tracked down a light fixture for someone on The Buzz Board the other day and learned it was actually a one-way mirrored shade covering up an existing chandelier. It's an ingenious way to update a crystal chandelier and give it a more contemporary look. Let's take a gander at some chandeliers wearing some sexy outfits:
This room has traditional bones, with the exception of the shade-covered chandelier. It adds intrigue and commands attention. It also makes me wonder what they will pick out for furniture.
At first glance this looks like a simple drum shade pendant light, but check out the beautiful reflection on the ceiling. It's a delightful surprise.
The shade provides a more streamlined look for this longer chandelier.
This was the picture that sent me searching for the light source. This one is The Light Shade Shade by Moooi. It reflects light when it's turned off, but reveals the chandelier's silhouette when it's on.
In this room, there's an opportunity to stand directly beneath the light and look up its dressing (this isn't so easy to do when it's hanging over a dining room table).
Shabby Chic fans, don't feel left out! The look lends itself well to the style, especially when you choose a crisp white shade.
