If you have just bought a house I want to firstly say, congratulations, buying a house in this day and age can be a major challenge. Now that you have your house—it’s time to turn it into a home!
After spending a lot of money on the purchasing part, you will want to save as much money as possible on the decorating and all the extra costs that go with it, whilst still making it look as lovely as possible.
This is why I want to help out by sharing a few pointers I’ve picked up over the years.
You too should be able to love the place where you live and spend most of your time, making you happy with what you have while also being smart and savvy with your purchases.
The first step is the most obvious, making sure you have the finances is something you don't need me to tell you to do but it's better to be safe than sorry! One of the biggest mistakes one of my friends made when purchasing and decorating their space was not making a pool of money for necessities.
Sometimes when moving into a new area, you forget that you need money for other things and this can be a real killer. My first tip would be to sit down with a pen and paper and make a lot of things you absolutely need before you get to the fun stage, the decorating.
Decorating Inspiration
Once that boring part is out of the way, you are all set to let the fun begin. There are certain websites or people I looked at when decorating because I wanted to make sure I had the perfect vision before I spent my money. Having a goal in mind and a theme will do wonders for you and saying “trust the process” will actually mean something when you have the vision laid out before you.
One of the biggest tips I have for people decorating is using PayPal when making your biggest purchases. When I bought my sofa I used PayPal and their 0% interest on set purchases. This means for some items you can buy them and have a deal where you get six months interest-free.
If you don't have a PayPal account and want to have a credit card without interest, PayPal is the perfect place for you. As well as this offer, PayPal is also a very safe option for these big purchases which means you can feel safe sending your money or even depositing when you play online slots at casinos accepting PayPal. If you can feel safe doing this, buying an important item will feel like a cakewalk.
Coming from one space to another leaves you with a range of items that may not fit the style you are going for. When I moved I quickly realized a lot of my items were less than desirable—so I sold them! Even if I was selling at a loss for some of the items, I was still gaining money that I didn't have before.
Buying Cheap
Similarly to the last tip, finding other people selling is a massive life saver. There will always be someone out there doing the same thing as you and selling the items they no longer want. Sometimes you can find a nice rug or a mirror at a steal that will perfectly fit your home and when you die, there is no better feeling.
DIY Is Key
When I first moved I picked up a DIY hobby which allowed me to make shelving units and other items for cheap, while also being able to pick up a nice hobby in the process. DIYing isn't for everyone, but if you are moving in with other people or you have family who will do it for cheap, it is worth a shot,
