These bonsai pots are painted in the madori style, with a traditional white circle showing through peripheral gosu blue. While the artist creates square or circular spaces that typically contain an image in the madori style, the white space itself becomes the design in this series. The surrounding gosu blue is painted by hand using the traditional dami technique. The pot’s base may also double as tableware.
