Smoky Black Pomegranate Cocktail â everyone’s favorite warming autumn drink with a touch of smokiness. Itâs frightastically magical. Blackberries smashed with rosemary, then shaken with vodka, orange liquor, sweet pomegranate juice. A magical Halloween cocktail to celebrate the season. Finish this spooky drink off with burnt rosemary and a smoking cinnamon stick for that extra special black magic.
It’s cocktail Saturday the spooky Halloween edition! When I started cocktail Saturday, I started with Halloween inspired drinks. These are always some of my favorite to mix up and we have fun naming them too!
I knew I wanted to create something with a haunted vibe! Kind of Hocus Pocus inspired! Smashed blackberries with rosemary and sweet pomegranate. Its natural sweetness makes for the perfect warming drink for all the chilly fall evenings ahead.
Here are the Details
Ingredients – for the cocktailÂ
- fresh blackberries
- fresh rosemary
- vodka
- orange liquor
- pomegranate juice
- lemon juice
- maple
- sparkling water
- cinnamon sticks
Ingredients – for the mocktailÂ
- fresh blackberries
- fresh rosemary
- pomegranate juice
- orange zest and orange juice
- lemon juice
- maple
- sparkling water
- cinnamon sticks
Step 1: prepare your cocktail glass
If you want to create and even smokier effect, smoke the cinnamon and rosemary.
Here is how you do it: working on a heat-proof tray, use a kitchen torch to burn 1 cinnamon stick with 1 sprig fresh rosemary, then place a cocktail glass immediately over the cinnamon and rosemary, trapping in the smoke. Let sit 2-5 minutes. Fill the glass with ice, then pour over the cocktail.
Step 2: mix the drink
Muddle fresh blackberries with rosemary. Add vodka and orange liquor. Then pomegranate juice, lemon juice and sweeten to taste with maple.
If making a mocktail, omit the vodka and orange liquor. Instead, mix in additional pomegranate juice, orange zest, and orange juice. If you want a little zing, add a splash of apple cider vinegar. YUM.
Step 3: complete the drink
Pour the drink over ice and top with sparkling water, or use ginger beer!
To give this drink the ultimate spook factor, try torching a cinnamon stick and a sprig of rosemary just before serving. This adds a nice eerie, smoky final touch, which you all know I love. This drink will quickly become your Halloween go-to cocktail or simply be sipped on a chilly night at home. Whichever way you choose, this is one of those drinks that will be on repeat weekend after weekend.

just a heads up! in your description, you say it pairs perfectly with the bourbon in the drink, but you list vodka as the ingredient. might want to fix that!
