I long ago unsubscribed from the Editions app because it became too useless. Good luck with whatever improvements they’re making now!
]]>Not related to this particular post, but just to say I'm looking forward to your take on the forthcoming PDFing of the Guardian Editions app...
]]>I'm glad someone else shared my annoyance at the orange and teal-ness of Ludwig. I had thought this trend was over long ago. I was also annoyed at the overuse of Beethoven themes in the incidental music. Thank you for letting me share my annoyances.
]]>Thank you Phil, for writing such good words around this. Much love to you.
]]>Well Done Phil.
It is very good for me , who has been on the other side of the fence as a Dr since I was 23 and hopefully was the communicator in the team, to learn what it feels like now for you.
Thank you for sharing. So sad and so full of love. Our thoughts are with you ❤️
]]>Seconding everyone else thanking you for sharing this. The impressionistic brief style reminds me of my own frame-of-mind while dealing with my dad's illness and death in 2019, and dealing with the aftermath of his sudden passing. I felt stressed, but forced to be calm to deal with everything, and also found myself paying attention to random moments and holding on closely to them as a way of getting through it all.
]]>Thanks for sharing the hardest times ❤️ and wishing you strength in the months ahead.
]]>Thank you, Phil - your reflective writing is always a must-read, but you've really let us into a very sensitive episode and I am very grateful to you for sharing this.
]]>Thank you for this very open post. Also, now I'm even more convinced I need to play more VR.
]]>I read your first section with an ache, which I remember well from 13 years ago. If you need an ear over the next few weeks shout.
Your new glasses at first glance I thought was a younger you.
I'm happy to know there is someone else who deeply enjoys Slow Horses. It is a gem. I need to give Pachinko a viewing as the book had great reviews (I haven't read it).
]]>Have long been waiting to read your follow-up thoughts on The Bear. I wasn’t so keen on the second season (difficult second album, etc.). While the first episode took quite a daring and innovative approach to bridging the first and second seasons, and the cinematography remained incredible throughout, parts of the show started to grate; not least the cameos which felt overplayed (cf. John Cena, the untold number of celebrity chefs…). Guess you should never have too much of a good thing!
]]>❤️
]]>I found Chaplin-Keaton-Lloyd Film Locations through ooh.directory and have enjoyed it ever since! An extraordinary amount of research must go into that work.
(And I still haven’t made it through with W. David Marx’s most recent book either, but his Ametora book was a quick read, and one I loved.)
]]>Hi Phil
I found this site via a link from the Pepys Diary, which I have been following since the start of last year on the third run through. I want to say thanks - it has been an absolute pleasure entering Pepys' world (mostly) every day and the site, with its annotations, is a treasure.
In terms of your recommendations above, I was catching up with two friends last week on a six monthly culture update. I too think the Adrianne Lenker album is superb (not heard a better one yet this year) and I am also an avid follower of Shōgun. Alec rates Charli XCX and Ray has been an advocate for Snowfall for a number of years now (which has still not led to my watching it). Where we disagreed (like yourself) was on the merit of Hit Man, which I love unconditionally but they thought was a bit meh.
All the best, Keith
]]>I hope everyone involved gets better
]]>Hope everything comes out ok.
]]>I also like weeknotes.
]]>Always enjoy reading your updates. Don't have an opinion on how you release them!
> That’s the kind of exciting pastime you too could have if you moved to the countryside.
I too live a quiet life and this lovely piece of writing I saw via HN gave me confidence to continue living a simple life: bittersoutherner.com/f…
]]>Ah! Thanks for the mention. I finally saw Part Deux today and have *new* criticisms!
