Lasagna Pizza Is the Food Mash-up America Needs Right Now

Is this heaven? Photo: Little Caesars

What is pizza, but lasagna on a crust? And what is lasagna, but a crustless pizza with noodles? The two food items are more alike than different, and yet, it’s only now that one of the major pizza chains has thought to marry our two favorite comfort foods.

According to Chew Boom, Little Caesars has quietly begun testing out a lasagna pizza with a parmesan bread-crumb crust, mini pasta noodles, marinara sauce, and Italian sausage and topped with a mixture of mozzarella, Muenster, and ricotta. It’s going for $9 and is available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why this new pizza has been limited to just a few smallish cities in Georgia, West Virginia, and Ohio is utterly incomprehensible. This is the Frankenfood every American has been waiting for, the holy grail of food mash-ups. (Sorry, Cronut™.)

On second thought, Little Caesars doesn’t make the world’s best pizza. So maybe some more skilled pizza masters should try their hands at this long-awaited comfort-food crossover episode.
