First Look at Tigerlily, Clinton Hill’s Blossoming Bánh Mì Shop

Pratt alum Pascale Tran will open Tigerlily, a bánh mì shop, in Clinton Hill on May 12. “Vietnamese sandwiches are such cheap things to eat,” said Tran, as boxes of Boylan soda and bottles of Fiji water piled up around her. “I felt it was a shame it wasn’t offered here.”

Tran’s mother and aunt flew into New York to help her open the shop, and the menu is a familiar one: They will offer a variety of sandwiches (all $6.50) from the classic Vietnamese pork and pâté, coconut-curry chicken, grilled lemongrass beef, and a vegetarian option with smoked tofu and a melody of mushrooms. Tran also plans to serve a traditional shredded green-papaya salad with spicy beef jerky or tofu ($5.50), and fresh fruit shakes of mango with coconut and chili ($4.50). A good Vietnamese shop must sell coffee, says Tran, and her cold-brewed iced version will be made with Irving Farm Coffee beans.
