Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who has served as India’s External Affairs Minister since 2019 and who is the author of two books “The India Way” and “Why Bharat Matters”, discusses the future of the partnership in an interaction with a veteran Nikkei journalist.

2019年5月30日より現職。グジャラート州選出の上院議員。
モスクワ、コロンボ、ブダペスト、東京のインド大使館での勤務を経て、2000～04年駐チェコ大使、2007～09年駐シンガポール高等弁務官、2009～13年駐中国大使、2013～15年駐米大使、2015～18年外務次官。2018年5月からタタ・サンズ社のグローバル・コーポレート・アフェアーズ部門プレジデントを務めた。
デリー大学セント・スティーブンス・カレッジ卒。ジャワハルラール・ネルー大学（デリー）で政治学の修士号と国際関係学の修士号および博士号を取得。
2019年にインドの国家勲章「パドマ・シュリー」を受章。2020年出版の著書「The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World」（邦題：「インド外交の流儀：先行き不透明な世界に向けた戦略」）はベストセラーとなった。今年初めには2冊目の著書「Why Bharat Matters」を発売した。
Dr. S. Jaishankar is India’s External Affairs Minister since May 30th, 2019. He is a Member of the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) of India’s Parliament from the state of Gujarat.
He was Foreign Secretary from 2015-18, Ambassador to United States (2013-15), China (2009-2013) and Czech Republic (2000-2004). He was High Commissioner to Singapore (2007-2009).
He has also served in other diplomatic assignments in Embassies in Moscow, Colombo, Budapest and Tokyo, as well in the Ministry of External Affairs and the President’s Secretariat. He was also President – Global Corporate Affairs at Tata Sons Private Limited from May 2018.
Dr S. Jaishankar is a graduate of St. Stephen’s College at the University of Delhi. He has a Masters in Political Science and an M. Phil and Ph.D in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
He is a recipient of the Padma Shri award in 2019 and has written a widely acclaimed best-selling book: The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World, which was published in 2020. His second book: Why Bharat Matters was released earlier this year.

After covering industries such as automobiles, telecommunications, construction/real estate, energy, trading companies and electronics, he was stationed in Thailand for a total of eight years; 2010-15 as Bangkok bureau chief and 2019-22 March as Editor-in-Chief of Editorial Headquarters for Asia.
He also serves as a member of the editorial board.
His book 'Thailand: Escape from Confusion' won the Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Special Award in 2016.
