This option in "save" category would help me avoid a lot of dupes but how does it know if a file exists already? does it keep track of every downloaded image with its hash or id?

just downloaded an image i saved a long time ago in grabber with "shortcut" selected if a file exists globally and I got no shortcut, it downloaded the image as always, is this feature really functional?
