AMHERST — A series of vehicle break-ins on Lincoln Avenue, with valuables taken from unlocked cars, are being investigated by Amherst police.

The break-ins were reported over the weekend, with at least one of the vehicles, parked in a driveway, having its glove box and center console opened and loose change stolen.

Detective Lt. William Menard said the incidents are considered crimes of opportunity because there was no forced entry.

The department is advising people to conceal or remove valuables from vehicles if they are left unlocked.
