I have a latex mattress. First let me say that I have bad reflux so I have to sleep in some unusual positions. I'm also getting older and I don't have as much padding on my hips, etc. Before all this I always slept on a hard mattress. I could not stand a soft mattress....made my back hurt. Well, I needed a new mattress and did a lot of research. I ended up buying from a company on-line who had lots of good reviews and I believe an excellent BBB rating. The customer service was great. They also gave a 365 day trial period. Plus free pillows and mattress cover. You could return it if you didn't like it. Just pay shipping back. You can't beat that. When I first tried it, it was wonderful. I don't think I even moved all night long. It is easy to get in and out of bed. You do not sink down into the mattress. You sleep on top of the mattress. It was perfect for me. Then I developed the medical issues with reflux. I had surgery and slept for the good part of a year sitting up on the couch. When I went back to the bed, I would start out alright but then my hips would hurt. I think it is because I have to elevate the head of the bed and then I sleep on my side and it puts pressure on my hips. I don't think the mattress has anything to do with it. I wish I had known this before my 365 day trial period was up. The mattress does not have that terrible smell that Tempur-pedic mattresses has. You do not sleep hot. It is great for adjustable beds. It is great for people who have allergies or asthma. I can't think of any negatives that can be attributed to the mattress. Well, it is heavy. I am going to sell it and get a soft mattress, though. But that is because of my hips hurting from me having to have the head of the bed elevated and I sleep on my side with it elevated. Not a very natural position. I guess the negative was that is was pricey, but it seems all the latex mattresses are pricey. And it is heavy.

We bought a Prana mattress a little over year ago. The first six months or so were wonderful! We felt like we were sleeping on soft, fluffy clouds. My husband and I slept like babies on our new mattress. We were so excited about finally being able to sleep comfortably. Then, about 7 or 8 months ago, we noticed big craters forming where we lay. We are both of average height and weight (both under 5'7" and under 160 pounds), so we knew it wasn't because we were too heavy. These round-crater type impressions seemed permanent, and this is when our back problems started. We now wake up almost daily complaining about back aches and pains. The $2500 we spent on the mattress was certainly wasted. If you're thinking about buying a Prana--think again. Definitely not worth the money. We've had cheaper mattresses over the years that were more comfortable. Now, just a year later, we are thinking of buying another cheaper mattress to escape our Prana nightmare. My husband says he is afraid to go to sleep. If you want to spend $2500+ on a mattress, do more research and talk to people who've had a particular brand of mattress for years. Don't rely on just a 5-minute "test" at the store and the sales rep's pitch. We did, and now we're stuck with a horribly uncomfortable and expensive mattress.

We have the #24084 King Del Ray Mattress Kit with a #200753 King Talalay Latex 3" Core 35 ILD. So basically I think it arrived and I wanted it to be firmer or softer? do not remember and they talked with me and advised the 3" and it was perfect. They were great to work with-they did not get my order out promptly-a glitch as they were moving or remodeling or soemthing. But when I called they had it out that very day. I did a ton of research -including figuring out where it was manufactured etc. There a lot of temperapedic knockoffs but what you can learn when you get into it is that there are only a few factories that make the product like T. and you can go from there and save $$. See if this site has their question and answer section-it was very helpful. They also will chat with you on the phone.

I don't know much about other mattresses, but I do know memory foam is wonderful. When we were building all extra dollars were going into buying matterials so as much as we needed a new mattress we didn't want to purchase a permanent one until we were in our new home so I bought one of the cheapy six inch thick dense mattresses with a small amount of memory foam at the top. I planned on using the foam later for lounge I wanted to make so the money spent wasn't waisted. The cheapy mattress was better than the hard standard, but high quality mattress we had, but not perfect. We bought a three inch 4.5 pound dense memory foam mattress pad at Sam's Club to place on top of it and have been sleeping wonderfully since. Never did buy the Temperpedic we were seriously considering once we moved. Not sure if this will help, but if your current mattress isn't too hard you might try a good quality memory foam pad before you buy a new mattress.
