“As a kid my mom and I would often say to each other “I love you more than a rose”
Which for us means I love you as big as love grows. This piece reminds me of my love for my mother.
And how it is in fact a forever love.”
Jordan Casteel, Transit, 2023
Oil on canvas, 198.12 cm × 152.4 cm. Presented by Casey Kaplan, POA
“Riding the subway in New York, I often find myself daydreaming or people-watching. For me, this piece is a reflection of those moments where I would get lost in observing a stranger’s interaction. Wondering where they were headed or coming from. In our silence, avoided eye contact, or sometimes soft smile. The human experience of traveling through this life. May we all feel the embrace of someone’s love and comfort at some point along the way.”
