So, 63 years ago, started a story in Electronics Weekly’s edition of September 14 1960
The story continues
These final trials will be over 50 per cent completed by the autumn of this year. A high percentage of the missiles so far fired have been successful, and in many cases direct hits have been scored on the meteor drone targets.
During acceptance trials the ability of the missile system to remain at instant readiness and at peak performance, over long periods will also be tested.
This will be a test not only of theequipment but of the naval technicians on whose training and efficiency this exacting task will largely depend.
Seaslug’s principal contractors are: Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft Ltd., Sperry Gyroscope Co.Ltd.,and the General Electric Co.Ltd.
I remember seeing Seaslug still in production when I visited Marconi in Portsmouth in the late 70s, but I was there for meeting about Sea Dart, for which Plessey Microwave was supplying Ka-band VCOs. That missile system was used fairly successfully in the Falklands.
According to Wiki it was used in anger once & missed.
