Temperatures to plunge in Greece as of Sunday

After enjoying a week of mild weather, temperatures in Greece are forecast to dive in the coming days, bringing snowfall in Western Macedonia and possibly in other parts of northern Greece, Thessaly and the mountains of the Peloponnese.

Starting on Sunday and through Tuesday, the national weather service warned of rain and storms over the Ionian islands, especially Corfu, along the coast of Epirus and Western Greece, in north Evia and possibly the islands of the northeast Aegean, together with gale-force winds in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea.

Temperatures will hover around 4-5 degrees in the north of the country and 9-10 in other regions.

Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vasilis Kikilias on Saturday urged the public to take all necessary precautions, such as snow chains and tyres, and follow the instructions of the authorities.

He said that there will be a deployment of civil protection forces, the fire brigade, the police, the coast guard, the armed forces, both levels of local government and volunteers.
