Polakis indignant over sudden readmission into SYRIZA group
Lawmaker Pavlos Polakis expressed his indignation over a sudden decision by SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis to reinstate him in the party’s parliamentary group on Tuesday, saying he was not consulted on the matter.
“I don’t think I am some child to be expelled without notice and to be reinstated with a notice from [parliament group head] Nikos Pappas a minute before [the announcement],” he told journalists outside the Parliament.
“As I stated on the day of the unacceptable expulsion, I was, am and [always] will be SYRIZA. I had also stated that only the people can expel someone and no one else…My formal return to the parliamentary group does not change in any way the political assessment I have made in relation to the political problem that SYRIZA has,” he added.
Polakis was readmitted less than six weeks after he was expelled by Kasselakis following an incident in parliament. The news was announced by Pappas, following a recommendation by Kasselakis, in a letter to the House Speaker.
The expulsion came after Polakis verbally attacked an aide to Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis during a parliamentary debate on the government’s psychiatric care bill. The MP for Chania criticized the aide’s facial expressions, describing them as condescending.
