DOC NYC Selects is an in-person, ongoing screening series that serves as an extension of DOC NYC’s annual fall festival. The Summer 2024 edition of DOC NYC Selects will run for four consecutive weeks, June 27 – July 16, at New York’s IFC Center, with filmmakers in person, and post-screening gatherings at Greenwich Village’s nearby Bar Veloce.

A Series Season Pass, good for all four Summer 2024 screenings in the DOC NYC Selects series, is available for $55 ($35 for IFC Center members). NYC PREMIERE Screening exactly a year to the day that a landmark US Supreme Court ruling dismantled key aspects of affirmative action in higher education, filmmakers Hao Wu and Miao Wang examine the factors that led to the high-stakes lawsuit filed by Asian American plaintiffs against Harvard University, and the wide-ranging fallout from the decision. The screening will be followed by an on-stage conversation with filmmaker Miao Wang and executive producer Amanda Spain.

Filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui (McQueen) soar to new heights with their emotional and deeply moving account of the story of the late Christopher Reeve, who became an iconic movie star as the Man of Steel in the blockbuster Superman films of the late 1970s and 80s – until a near-fatal accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. This epic documentary details Reeve’s pivot to determined activism for spinal cord injury cures and disability rights and care, a journey that his three children, Matthew, Alexandra, and Will, would eventually continue after his untimely death. The screening will be followed by an on-stage conversation with Will Reeve and filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui.
