I am excited to announce that customers using our Frame Desktop as a Service (DaaS) platform are now able to deploy native Windows 10 and 11 VMs on AWS EC2!

To meet Microsoft licensing requirements, Frame now automatically provisions VMs on AWS EC2 Dedicated Instances whenever Windows 10 BYOL or Windows 11 BYOL image families are selected during the Frame Account creation process. Just like with Windows Server OS, customers will have the option to bring their own image or deploy from Frame-provided base images.

Powered By AWS EC2 Dedicated Instances

While regular AWS EC2 instances run on shared tenancy hardware, dedicated instances are EC2 instances that run on hardware that’s dedicated to a single AWS account. Customers can pay for dedicated instances on-demand, as reserved instances, and as spot instance – just like regular EC2 instances. Customers are also charged an incremental hourly per region fee anytime there is at least one dedicated instance running in that particular region. You can learn more about AWS EC2 Dedicated Instance pricing here.

Bring Your Existing Microsoft 365 Licensing

For many customers the biggest benefit of this new feature is the ability to leverage their existing Microsoft 365 Windows Enterprise entitlements, which eliminates the need to pay for Windows Server OS licensing and Windows RDS-SALs separately. Users also enjoy an enhanced user experience and improved application compatibility compared to using Windows Server OS. To learn more about how to BYOL for Windows, click here.

Note: Microsoft does not permit Microsoft 365 Apps to be run on VMs hosted on AWS Dedicated Instances. However, Microsoft Office Professional licenses purchased prior to October 1, 2019 can be used with AWS Dedicated Instances.

It’s About Customer Choice

Frame’s support for native Windows 10/11 on AWS EC2 is part of Dizzion’s continued commitment to providing our customers with as much choice as possible in their digital workspace journey. We hope you are as excited about this new feature as we are – if you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out to your Dizzion Customer Success Manager or [email protected]
