Martin Henderson has addressed the possibility of returning to Grey's Anatomy.
The Virgin River star's character Nathan Riggs was first introduced as a love interest for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) during the medical drama's 12th season. However, he was eventually written out of the show early in season 14.
Seven years after his exit, Henderson has addressed whether he would be open to reprising his role.

"I haven’t given it a lot of thought, just because I’ve been so committed and busy with Virgin River and some other stuff and life," he told Deadline.
"But I think Shonda Rhimes has always been really supportive of me; we’ve actually worked together a bunch of times on different things, so I would always be open to the possibility.
"Again, if it fitted in with whatever else was going on in my life at the time and my career."

However, the actor also explained that he would only return if Nathan "had something to do", adding: "Because I don’t think they really knew what to do with Nathan.
"It was almost like a stopgap measure with the departure of Derek. It was like, 'Oh, we need a love interest'. And so he, and by virtue I, was dropped into this world, but I don’t think he was ever that defined. If I were to go back, I would have to make sure that there was a really clear plan for why he was there."
Following Henderson's exit from Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo said she was frustrated that the show forced a love interest onto her character so soon after Patrick Dempsey's exit as Derek.
Grey's Anatomy season 21 airs on Thursdays at 10pm ET on ABC in the US. Previous seasons are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
