KARACHI: A minor boy was killed and another wounded when people in a wedding ceremony resorted firing into the air in Keamari on Friday evening, police and rescue services said.

Keamari SSP Faizan Ali told Dawn that five suspects were arrested and legal proceedings were initiated against them.

He said that they were carrying out firing in jubilation at the wedding ceremony in Sikanderabad.

However, the bullets hit two boys, who were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared Malik Zahid, 12, dead.

The second boy, nine-year-old Abrar Mohammed, was admitted for treatment, he added.

Boy drowns in drain

A boy drowned in a drain in Baldia Town on Friday, police said.

Saeedabad SHO Idris Bangash said 12-year-old Abdul Wahab suffered a fit of epilepsy while he was passing by the drain in Yusuf Goth and fell in it.

Relatives rushed to the spot after receiving information and retrieved him. He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.
