Country with best cuisine in the world named - and it's not where you'd expect

One popular destination has been named the country with the best cuisine in the world, beating Italy, France and Spain to the top spot

Many holidaymakers choose their destination based on the local cuisine, whether it's indulging in French cheese and wine, Spanish tapas, or Italian pasta. The world is a smorgasbord of culinary delights, with each country offering its unique dishes.

While some nations are renowned for specific foods, like the UK's iconic fish and chips, others have a broader appeal when it comes to gastronomy. Unfortunately, British fare didn't crack the top 30, landing at a disappointing 48th place.

However, new research by TasteAtlas has revealed the country boasting the most delectable cuisine. After analysing 477,287 ratings for 15,478 foods in their database, the results were surprising.

Neither Italian, French, nor Spanish food claimed the top spot. Instead, Greece emerged as the nation with the highest-rated cuisine, scoring 477,287 out of 15,478 foods in the database, reports the Express.

Greek national dishes such as stifado (beef stew), moussaka (layers of potato, aubergine and mince) and dolma (stuffed vine leaves) contributed to this high rating. And who could forget classics like gyros, tzatziki and Greek salad?

Italy secured second place with homegrown favourites like pizza, risotto, tiramisu, bruschetta, panna cotta, and nougat.

Mexico took third place, with tacos, nachos, tortillas, burritos, guacamole, and quesadillas among its national dishes.
