under a million

A Startlingly Well-Priced Fieldston One-Bedroom

For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We’re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.

We found you a studio in the West Village with a working fireplace and a cozily renovated Park Slope co-op.

A one-bedroom in Park Slope for $599,000

846 President Street No. 3F

This Park Slope co-op is small, but the French doors shown in this listing photo help open up the space. Photo: Compass

This one-bedroom co-op is small, but maybe small is okay. There are lots of nice renovated touches, like the Bosch fridge, and the French doors between the living room and the bedroom make things open and airy. Monthlies are low at $584, and if you need more storage, there’s more of that in the basement.

An Upper West Side three-bedroom for $999,999

302 West 79th Street No. 5B

The south-facing living room featured in this listing photo brings light into the apartment. Photo: Compass

A coveted three-bedroom, though one of the bedrooms requires walking through the kitchen to access it. (Or as the listing puts it, a “rarely available floor plan.”) But at least you still get actual separation for your kids (and from your kids). Plus: a south-facing living room.

A $450,000 studio in the West Village

41 Jane Street No. 4C

A rare working fireplace is the centerpiece of this listing photo. (Not pictured: the folded-up Murphy bed nearby.) Photo: Compass

You’ll have to sleep in a Murphy bed, but it’s right on Jane Street with access to the Jane Street Garden. Incredibly, there’s a wood-burning fireplace. This is an apartment you’ll tell stories about later.

A Riverdale one-bedroom for $279,000

4414 Cayuga Avenue No. 5D

The one-bedroom in this listing photo shows a prewar apartment with lots of space that needs some updating. Photo: Douglas Elliman

A really spacious and beautiful one-bedroom co-op for an eye-poppingly low price. The apartment comes with a huge foyer, ample closet space, hardwood floors, and a view of Van Cortlandt Park. The bathroom, though, probably needs some updates. The neighborhood is cute, if snoozy. Are we not talking enough about Riverdale and Fieldston?
