My original reasons for choosing to attend the School were largely scientific and academic. The international reputation of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory really speaks for itself and there was no doubt in my mind that this would be an intellectually stimulating environment and a good place to do science. What one can only appreciate after spending an extended amount of time here is the pervasive sense of family and community. The unique approach of the School really fosters co-operation and teamwork between students. The challenging Fall semester is a fantastic opportunity for working closely with classmates and developing friendships. The CSHL community is small and close-knit, but also incredibly dynamic because of the constant influx of visiting scientists. Social activities, including volleyball and wine and cheese events, provide a fun break from lab work, and are wonderful for networking.
