Whether you are interested in sports, outdoors, museums, shopping, concerts, great food, good company, or all of the above, I've found that Cold Spring Harbor Lab and the surrounding areas have much to offer. If you're interested in sports, we have soccer club twice a week, pick-up volleyball games at least once a week, the highly talked about outdoor volleyball league, a tennis tournament, ultimate Frisbee club, and more. We also have indoor leagues in the winter months for volleyball, soccer, and basketball. We have plenty of beaches on the island (I've gone surfing once, and I'm waiting to go again), kayaking in the Long Island Sound or right in the harbor, a sailing club with the lab-owned boats, nearby ski resorts, and many parks to hike or bike. Also close to the lab are the Long Island wine country and outlet malls.
While CSHL is situated in the quaint little town of Cold Spring Harbor, you can explore New York City, which is just a train ride away. There are plenty of museums, Broadway shows, concerts, professional sport games, and restaurants for any taste. If you want to stay close to home, there is also the option of great restaurants nearby in Huntington, a movie theater, bars, live music in Jazz clubs, and places just to play some pool. I have found CSHL and the surrounding areas to be a fun place to work and play.
