Symbio which is part of the ASX-listed Aussie Broadband Group has unveiled its Scam Shield AI-powered system which is designed to help service providers safeguard voice and messaging traffic on its voice network.
The company developed Scam Shield by drawing on insights from domestic markets and regulatory environments where it operates, aiming to create a best-practice solution.
Initially available in Australia, Symbio plans to extend the system to its New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysian domestic customers in the future.
Scam Shield will continuously analyse customer traffic and responses, using the data to improve its scam prediction accuracy over time.
The system will provide customers with actionable insights to enhance their own scam detection and mitigation efforts.
This proactive approach, combined with Symbio's existing scam traceback procedures, aims to strengthen the identification of scam traffic.
Scam Shield has been developed to support compliance with the Australian Industry Code C661:2022 "Reducing Scam Calls and Scam SMS".
The code requires telecommunications service providers to monitor their networks for scam activities.
Key benefits of Symbio's Scam Shield include early alerts for potential scam threats, self-learning capabilities based on customer feedback, and enhanced safety through timely prediction and identification of scam patterns.
Starting now, Symbio will begin trialling Scam Shield with a select set of customer traffic to further refine its monitoring and detection capabilities.
"We are working to improve how we identify and reduce scam traffic," Dylan Brown, chief executive of the Connect division of Symbio, said.
"We frequently engage with our customers to better understand their traffic and their use cases," Brown said.
"We know that a large number of genuine business use cases have similar high-frequency, short-duration call patterns similar to scam traffic that may be blocked by other carriers," the chief executive said.
"Symbio is focused on working with our customers to better fight scam traffic together, as a trusted partner in the Asia Pacific region," he added.
