It’s about time Pete Rose gets the recognition he deserves while still alive for being a great, hard-nosed baseball player (”Time to let Rose in Hall of Fame, and restore OSU’s 2010 record,” Bob Paulson column, May 5).
Other players have earned accolades and been inducted into the Hall of Fame for their abilities and stats even though, as The New York Times’ Bill Pennington wrote a decade ago, the HOF “already includes multiple virulent racists, drunks, cheats, brawlers, drug users and at least one acknowledged sex addict.” And in the future -- who knows -- maybe it will include one or more who won the World Series when their team cheated.
What is wrong with this picture? Do the right thing and honor Pete Rose, who did so much for baseball.
