Hillary Clinton has not yet declared that she is a candidate for president in 2016, but she already has the support of Brian Schatz.
The U.S. senator from Hawaii on Monday encouraged his supporters to sign up at readyforhillary.com, which seeks campaign donations.
“Given our shared passion for addressing challenges like climate change and promoting policies to strengthen America’s future generations, I am encouraging Hillary Clinton to run for president, and I’m ready to support her the moment she announces her decision,” Schatz said in an email pitch to supporters.
Mazie Hirono, Hawaii’s other senator, has already indicated her support for Clinton.
“In fact, before Clinton has even declared her candidacy, nearly 60 percent of Democratic senators have endorsed her run,” CNN reports.
Clinton, the former first lady, U.S. senator and secretary of state, is widely perceived to be the frontrunner for the Democratic Party in the next presidential contest.
Other names bandied about include former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia, current U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Gov. Martin O’Malley of Maryland.
Vice President Joe Biden has also not yet ruled out a bid.
