This summer Telltale Games announced The Walking Dead: Michonne, a mini-series starring the katana-wielding bad-ass. This week, they indicated that we won't have to wait much longer for the game to arrive.
Telltale PR man Job Stauffer teased a surprise launch of the game via Twitter:
In the past, Telltale Games has released its adventure games digitally first so it's easy for them to catch us off-guard with a release. They don't have to worry about retailers spoiling their surprise. The company's sneakiness was on display at the end of October when they abruptly released Episode 2 of Minecraft: Story Mode.
The Walking Dead: Michonne isn't a prequel or origin story. Instead, it tells the story of what happened to Michonne between issues #126 and #139 of the comics. Over the three-episode adventure, we find out why she left Rick and the group and what made her return. Here's how The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman described the miniseries this summer:
Michonne will be available for PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, iOS and Android. Telltale Games previously said that you'll need at least Episode 1 of The Walking Dead: Season Two installed on your device to play Michonne. That episode is free on every platform except PC or Mac so that's an easy enough requirement to meet. PC and Mac owners can only buy Season Two as one bulk purchase currently, though maybe Telltale will find a way to let them buy Michonne on its own.
Telltale Games also plans to make a third season of their The Walking Dead series, which follows characters not seen in the TV show or comic books. Stauffer said on Twitter that we'll hear more about their Season Three plans once Michonne is finished:
In the meantime, The Walking Dead fans can occupy themselves with new episodes of the TV show. Season 6 launched last month and already has a lot of viewers hooked due to a major cliffhanger.
