The LEGO Movie Videogame Debut Trailer
TT Games has been pumping out LEGO games for quite some time now, so it only makes sense that they make a movie based on the toys that their own games are based on. Confused yet? Yes? Good. Let's move on. The game has received its official debut trailer and it'll be arriving in February, 2014 for enough gaming platforms to form its own sovereign nation.
The LEGO Movie Videogame is a ridiculous collage of activities that keep in theme and play-style with previous LEGO games, as players will take on multiple roles and build all sorts of zany contraptions to help them throughout the game.
One of the highlights of the LEGO Movie Videogame is that it captures a lot of what made the previous LEGO games so popular, which includes multiple characters, tons of objects to build, lots of action and plenty of multiplayer mayhem. Even more than that, TT has been able to reach deep into the entire catalog of characters that have spanned multiple LEGO video game franchises, including the LEGO Batman titles.
It's a little unfortunate that the video didn't roll out more footage because I was curious if Marvel characters were included... can you imagine pitting a LEGO Wolverine against a LEGO Batman? Or a LEGO Hulk against a Voldemort? It's unlikely, but a cross-branded Royal Rumble is still something fans can dream about.
Anyway, the trailer is a sleek bit of promo material. It captures a lot of the same elements from the movie trailer for The LEGO Movie, where it seems just enough on the brink of self-parody to make up for the fact that the gameplay is essentially the same thing gamers have been experiencing from TT since they came onto the scene with the LEGO Star Wars games.
There isn't a whole lot else to say about the game, but one of the things that really sticks out is the fact that despite this gaming basically being the same thing that we've been seeing and playing for years, yet it still has some element of appeal, seems to show that TT Games seems to tapping into the whole Nintendo philosophy of focusing on fun over anything else.
While I'm sure there are still people out there who will feel this is just another cash-in game like Activision's illustrious Call of Duty brand, I do have to give a bit of leeway toward TT Games for elevating the fun by constantly bringing in new elements to the game as opposed to seesawing features in annual releases and then bringing them back and making it seem like they were never there to begin with.
