Grid 2, Holiday Sales Arrive On PlayStation Plus Today
December is officially upon us, meaning it’s time for the first PlayStation Plus update of the month. Starting this afternoon, gamers with a love for the open road, hairpin turns and photo finishes can add Grid 2 to their Instant Game Collection on the PlayStation 3. There’s also a bunch of holiday sales available featuring some ridiculously low prices on games new and old.
Before we get to those discounts, we’re going to keep the spotlight on Grid 2 for just a little bit longer, this week’s free game through PlayStation Plus.
“Be fast, be first and be famous as you join the elite in ‘World Series Racing,’ where the greatest cars, drivers and events come together in the search for a new motorsport icon,” reads the Plus update announcement. “Experience aggressive racing against advanced AI and become immersed in the race with Grid 2’s new TrueFeel Handling system, which powers edge-of-control exhilaration behind the wheel of every iconic car.”
Along with the meaty single player race campaign and all of the free racing you can shake a stick at, Grid 2 also boasts a robust online component where players can battle for supremacy behind the wheel of their favorite cars.
If, perhaps, a free racing game isn’t enough to sate your gaming hunger this week, then you’ll be happy to know that there’s also a trunk-load of discounts being made available, too. A handful of miscellaneous deals kicks off with Tiny Brains, which is finally releasing on the PlayStation 4 this week. This cooperative puzzle platformer will regularly go for $19.99 but, for PS Plus subscribers, it can be yours for just $15.99.
The Vita touch-focused action game, Draw Slasher has had its price slashed to just $2.99 while the Vita version of Rainbow Moon has been marked down to $11.99 for the Plus crowd.
This week also marks the beginning of the PlayStation Network Holiday Sale, which will rotate in a new batch of discounts on a weekly basis throughout December. For starters, Defiance is now available for $2.50 with the Deluxe Edition costing just $7.50. An MMO third-person shooter, Defiance is a little bit Borderlands and a little bit World of Warcraft, giving players a big world to explore, loads of monsters to shoot, a meaty story to work through and all of the usual trappings of an online game. I had a lot of fun with this one and, at this price; you’d be a fool to pass it up.

Ni No Kuni falls to $9.79 for the week with the vanilla version of Final Fantasy XIV going for $10 and the Collector’s Edition going for $15. Finally, Rocksmith 2014 is just $29.39 as part of the Holiday sale.
