Fallout 4 Has Made Tons Of Money So Far
Bethesda and Zenimax revealed some of the figures for Fallout 4 and it's quite impressive so far. The game has shipped millions of units the world around and has made potentially hundreds of millions of dollars within the span of just a few days. It's not surprising given the hype and popularity surrounding the title.
Over on the official Bethesda website they announced that they have 12 million units available of the game the world around in order to “meet demand”. Keep in mind that the 12 million figure does not represent sell-throughs but shipments. That's not to say that 12 million people won't buy Fallout 4, because that's completely and entirely plausible, but they haven't actually sold through that many... yet.
The 12 million SKUs being made available do represent the potential sales margin of $750 million, according to Bethesda. Again, keep in mind that the actual wording of the press release is that the 12 million SKUs are “representing sales in excess of $750 million”. So the “representing” part is the big modifier that makes it known that the game hasn't quite sold $750 million worth of units... yet. They do note that many retailers did sell out and that Fallout 4 was one of the biggest selling games of the year and Bethesda is set on resupplying retailers as soon as possible.
What we do know is that according to Steam Spy, the game has sold through 1.2 million units on Steam in just one day, as reported by ShackNews. The game also broke the record on Steam for most concurrent users that wasn't a Valve game, hitting 470,000 concurrent users. It's not hard to imagine that the Xbox One and PS4 may have moved a million units on day one as well. At the very least the game appears to have made $180 million on day one.
Vlatko Andonov, the president of Bethesda Softworks commented about the game's recent release, stating in the press release...
Fallout 4 was labeled by Nielsen Media as having the same sort of anticipation levels as Assassin's Creed: Syndicate – and even though we don't have actual solid numbers of the sell-through rate right now – but we all know there's no way that the gaming community was as excited for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate as they were for Fallout 4.
Nielsen also put Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 above Fallout 4, but I'm wondering where the two actually stand on the sales? Activision did reveal that the game moved $550 million worth of units over the launch weekend for seventh and eighth gen game consoles. If Bethesda manages to move all 12 million units then they'll actually hit that $750 million and they could possibly beat Activision and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

So far a lot of gamers and critics are loving Fallout 4 and the amount of content, replayability and depth that the gameplay offers. There are some complaints about the game being glitchy, but so far the love for the title seems to outweigh the hate for it. The sales so far seem to reflect all that love.
