Chief’s taps into Church’s Carolina roots in partnership with James Beard Award Winning Pitmaster Rodney Scott, debuting the Chef’s first Nashville restaurant, Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ.
Scott takes the same kind of care with his cooking that Church takes with his music. Six smokers are active throughout the day—and much of the cooking operation is visible to patrons—to provide non-stop availability. Every detail of Hell of a Q is designed to Scott’s specifications, right down to the disco ball that is a fixture in all his restaurants, a throwback to his upbringing in the 1970s.
About Rodney Scott
Rodney Scott got his start in his family’s South Carolina barbecue joint at just eleven years old. By the age of 17, he was working full-time at the restaurant, and by 2011 he was running the operation, 2011, opening the second location in Charleston, SC, in 2017. In 2018, Scott was named Best Chef: Southeast by the James Beard Foundation, the second pitmaster ever to win a James Beard chef award. Over the next few years, he opened locations in Birmingham and Atlanta. This will be his first restaurant in Tennessee and the first-ever James Beard Chef and walk-up window to Broadway.
