Treasurer

We are currently located at the Carr Building at 188 Genesee Street, Suite 104 on the 1st floor. We are currently open to the public at this location from 9 am – 3 pm only. However, we encourage you to pay your tax bill by mailing it, and we will accept the postmarked date for each tax deadline. We also have a Treasurer drop box available to the left of the front door of the County building at 160 Genesse St. Auburn. It is picked up daily. You may also pay online by credit card on the County website at www.cayugacounty.us, go to the Treasurer’s department page, then go to the quick link called “Make an online payment to the Cayuga County Treasurer” and it will take you to our AllPaid vendor to process your payment. If you don’t get a call back within a day after leaving a voice message, please call us back. Have a good day!

Payments

Payments to our office may be mailed, made on-line (2.65% service fee for credit/debit transactions or a flat $2.50 fee for e-checks will be applied by the credit card processor), or payment may be dropped off to our locked drop box in front of the County Office Building.  Payments left in the drop box should be in a sealed envelope with "Treasurer’s Office" written on the front.  Please be sure to indicate what the payment is for and include contact information.  If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Certificate of Residence

Students may submit completed applications to the County Treasurer's Office by mail or they may drop off their application to our locked drop box in front of the County Office Building.  Please include with your application a stamped, addressed envelope, so we can mail the Certificate of Residence to the correct location.

Students should complete the application by filling out the top portion, signing the application in front of a Notary Public, and having the Town Clerk/City Clerk (not County Clerk) in which they reside verify residency on the bottom of the form. Incomplete applications will be returned to the student.

Retiree Benefits

Payments may be mailed or dropped off to our locked drop box in front of the County Office Building.  Payments left in the drop box should be in a sealed envelope with "Treasurer’s Office" written on the front.

The Cayuga County Treasurer is an elected official within the county government of Cayuga County, New York. The staff of the Cayuga County Treasurer’s Office is actively involved in the daily financial activities involved with the operation of the Cayuga County government.

Extensive records are accurately kept which makes the Cayuga County Treasurer’s Office a small but essential part of Cayuga County Government operations.

Responsibilities

The Cayuga County Treasurer’s Office undertakes activities primarily in the following categories:

Accounting:

  • Cash management
  • Receive and disburse Federal, State and local funds as required
  • Develop and issue the County’s annual financial statements
  • Collection and regulation of County’s room occupancy tax
  • Oversees issuance and payment of county debts
  • Monitor the collection of the County’s share of sales tax
  • Maintain inventory of county government assets

Payroll and Benefits:

  • Administration of County payroll
  • Acceptance of retiree monthly health insurance payments

Tax Collection:

  • Collection of 2nd Installment Town and County Taxes, Delinquent Town and County Taxes, and Delinquent City School Taxes
  • Real Property Tax Foreclosures
  • Provides real property tax information to County taxpayers, local governments, banks and attorneys
  • Tax Searches
  • Issue Certificate of Residence for students that are Cayuga County residents and attending community college in another county
  • Collection of Cayuga County Court imposed fines, surcharges, dna fees, sor, and ssor fees
  • Maintenance of bail funds

Additional Services:

  • Serves as legal custodian for court and trust funds
