On Nov. 6, I wrote that the Wizards were surprisingly not at the bottom of the NBA power rankings after they got back-to-back wins against the Atlanta Hawks and climbed their way to a 2-2 record. But the wins against the Hawks were in October.
Since then, Washington has gone on a ten-game losing streak. It’s still far off the 16 game losing streak they had last season. But the Wizards are now 2-12 with the worst regular season in the NBA so far in the 2024-25 season. Even the Philadelphia 76ers, who have other team chemistry issues, won their third game of the season when they faced off against the Brooklyn Nets yesterday.
Though the Wizards’ loss against the Boston Celtics yesterday didn’t count in the last version of the ESPN NBA Power Rankings, Washington has now fallen to a position many, if not most Wizards fans expected at the beginning of this season: they are now dead last in the rankings at No. 30.
Wizards Head Coach Brian Keefe may not have been happy with the effort in some of Washington’s last few games, but the Wizards are in the middle of their “deconstruction” phase. But on top of that, it does get demoralizing at some point when a team is outmatched night after night.
I do think the Wizards will start to string some wins as this season goes on and as some teams start getting into “load management” mode. But for the time being, things are going to be tough. For now, I just hope that the Wizards won’t approach the Detroit Pistons’/76ers’ NBA record 28 game losing streak.
