Sydney’s Queens Sparkle at Summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
On Tuesday 8 September, six of Sydney’s drag queen community put the ‘fabulous’ into BridgeClimb, sashaying to the summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Standing 134 metres above the sparking harbour, the Queens flew satin capes of rainbow colours and launched The Mardi Gras Climb 2016, which invites participants and supporters of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival to sing and dance on a stage like no other – the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural Mardi Gras Disco Climb, BridgeClimb is taking the celebrations a few steps higher with two more world firsts.
For the first time ever, the entire bucket-list journey (3.5hrs) will be set to music. A retro track list sounding through headphones will alternate with the customary historical facts of Sydney and its famous Bridge delivered by their Climb Leader on their ascent.
Additionally, waiting for them at the summit, alongside the popular Karaoke machine and glittering mirror ball of 2015, will be a novelty song props box.
Climbers on The Mardi Gras Climb 2016 can pop on a crown and cut shapes to Abba’s ‘Dancing Queen’, don the famous headdresses while busting out moves to The Village People’s ‘Macho Man’ or pull on some hairy monster gloves and do their best little monster hands with Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’.
BridgeClimb invites participants to break out your hairspray and blue eye shadow! The eclectic eighties are coming to a venue like no other. The Sydney Harbour Bridge. Only at Mardi Gras. Only in Sydney.
The Mardi Gras Climb karaoke suite features plasma TV screens, microphones and concert style speakers. Seven Climbers positioned opposite seven fellow Climbers will groove in a sing and dance-off with their friends dressed in the colourful novelty props at the summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Mardi Gras Climbers ascend 1,002 steps, whilst passionate Climb Leaders share stories about Sydney. They can then showcase their best dance moves to a disco beat, all captured on a complimentary 8 second video.
The 3 ½ hour route takes Climbers through the heart of the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s massive structure before summiting to the very top of the Bridge, 134 metres above sea level, where they are rewarded with a spectacular 360 degree view of the city.
BridgeClimb offers a truly memorable experience, perfect for special occasions, family adventures, team building and corporate events.
The Mardi Gras Climb runs from 25th February to 9th March, with tickets available from today at www.bridgeclimb.com/mardigras or call (02) 8274 7777.
