Climbers Celebrate Moon Festival at the Summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
On Monday 8th September 2014, in celebration of the annual Moon Festival, a group of Climbers were treated to a traditional Chinese experience at the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge under the enchanting glow of the full moon.
Twelve Climbers, the lucky winners of an online competition with Nan Hai Culture & Media, were given a Mandarin Climb with a few surprises to commemorate the special occasion. Upon reaching the summit, the Climbers enjoyed a live instrumental performance of popular Chinese songs and sampled customary moon cakes while gazing at the luminous full moon high above Sydney Harbour.
The Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of the most important dates on the Chinese calendar, and takes place on the 15th day of the 8th Chinese lunar month each year. Family and friends reunite to celebrate good health and fortune and appreciate the beauty of the moon at its brightest and fullest of the year.
One climber, Shengyan Wen, was excited to spend the festival atop an Australia icon, overlooking one of the most picturesque harbours in the world.
“This event was a very unique way to enjoy the Moon Festival, and from the perfect vantage point. The view of the full moon beaming above the city lights was spectacular and something I will never forget”, he said.
