(Photo) Last June, Mason Terry went to band camp as a bass trombonist at the Univ. of Illinois. When he returned home to Breezy Point he received an invitation to join the National Honor Band. Thus, the Pequot Lakes High School junior will be in the 400-piece band marching in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Years Day.

A minority of the city council likely will decide a question about expanding off-sale liquor licenses in the city because four members are abstaining for a variety of reasons of perceived conflict of interest. The license is intended for the former Sears building owned by the Joe Gustafson family.

The Brainerd Golf and Country Club has been sold to Richard and Marian Kampa of Norwood, Minn. Previous owner was a group composed of Dick Breen, Clint Nelson, Kevin Close, Rod Converse, Dale Johnson, Lee Mitchell and Lonnie Liebel. The purchase price was not revealed.

Height superiority giving a 40 to 22 rebound edge, and 40 percent shooting against 34 percent gave the Warriors a 68-52 win over Little Falls. And Brainerd needed it as bungling floor play led to many turnovers. John Longfellow had 20 points and Randy Jessen had 17 for Brainerd.
80 years ago (1944)
The city council last night appointed the city engineer and city attorney to investigate the increasing rat menace in the city. Rats are moving into Brainerd from the city dump, west of town. The engineer will confer with the Mankato city engineer, who has a state-wide reputation for his ability to exterminate rats.
100 years ago (1924)
W.H. Gemmell has secured a suitable Christmas tree which will be presented to the people of Brainerd by the Lions Club. The tree will be decorated with colored lights by the Water and Light Dept. and erected Dec. 22 in the downtown district. Bags of candy will be distributed to the kiddies.

37/46: This truck belonged to Silas Hall's Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street). He launched a kite at 3 p.m. yesterday near the court house and it's still flying despite a near disaster when a truck caught the kite string. The weatherman says it will remain windy today.
