Roxy’s Grilled Cheese in Allston is closing its doors after 10 years in business, according to a Facebook post this week. The restaurant’s last day of service is Sunday, Nov. 24.

“After 10 crazy years, it’s time for us to say goodbye to our Allston spot,” the Facebook post read. “…We just want to say THANK YOU for all the cheesy memories. It’s been an absolute honor to be part of this community.”

What started out as a food truck serving various grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers then grew into two restaurants — one in Allston, the other in Central Square, which both catered to a younger college-age crowd.

One could order a classic grilled cheese sandwich on Iggy’s bread, but the menu was also made up of quirky takes on the nostalgic food, like a grilled cheese topped with bacon and guacamole.

It wasn’t immediately clear why Roxy’s was closing its Allston location. At the time they opened in Allston, between Root and Deep Ellum, co-owner James DiSabatino told Boston Magazine they picked the spot on Cambridge Street because it was an “emerging neighborhood that was a little more open to allowing us to experiment.”

Root closed in 2015, and Deep Ellum was replaced by Lone Star Taco Bar during the COVID-19 pandemic. DiSabatino also opened two locations of fast-casual vegan restaurant Whole Heart Provisions near Roxy’s Allston and Central Square locations, but that concept has since shuttered.

It isn’t the end of Roxy’s in Greater Boston, however. Their food truck still makes its way around Boston and can be booked for private events. Roxy’s Central Square location — which is also attached to Roxy’s Arcade — also remains open.
