People have been asked to nominate their sporting heroes across 12 categories in the Reigate and Banstead Sports Awards.

Nominations are open until 31 January for categories including inclusive sport, senior citizen and changing lives awards.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council said the awards, to be given out at a ceremony in April, recognised performance and dedication to sport in the borough in 2024.

Nadean Moses, the council's executive member for sustainability and leisure said the awards celebrate "all those who keep our sports clubs and teams running; those who motivate and inspire; as well as those who achieve to the best of their potential."

She said sport played a "vital role" in the borough's communities, "helping people of all ages and abilities to stay healthy and connected".

The 12 categories are volunteer of the year, young volunteer of the year, changing lives award, sports person of the year, young sports person of the year, coach of the year, club of the year, team of the year, junior team of the year, senior citizen award, inclusive sport award and sustainability in sport award.

Ms Moses said: "I encourage anyone who has benefitted from community sport this year to nominate their heroes."

Nominees must reside or be part of a club within the borough and nominations can be in more than one category, as long as the nomination meets the agreed criteria.

Details of how to nominate are available on the council's website.
